First line is the question. From the second line, “Name: answer”. If the second line has no name, it becomes the setting line. Up to six people. You can also drop a saved draft (JSON) here.
If you just need a question, “Draw a question” under Q & A is enough. To answer first and bring it here, use Question Karte ↗
Takes as long as the video itself. When it’s done, it saves automatically.
What is Question Movie Maker?
Question Movie Maker is a free tool that turns a question and your characters’ answers into a 15–30 second vertical video (MP4), right in the browser. Introduce a TRPG investigator, present an original character (OC), meet the party before a session, or capture a line after a scenario, without any video editing software. Add icon images or portraits and the speaker lights up and bounces as they talk, so the characters feel like they’re there. The finished video can be posted straight to X or Instagram.
What you can do
- Four formats. Pop (speech bubbles appear one by one, 1:1), Close-up (zooms in on one person at a time, 9:16), Captions (question on top, answers stacking below, 16:9), and Lineup (everyone in a row, only the speaker lit, 4:5). A recommended format is marked based on how many people there are.
- Moods. The mood is read from each answer and changes the bubble shape, comic marks and bounce. It switches at each period or comma, and the listeners react too. You can also pick moods by hand.
- Icons and portraits. Each person can have an icon image and a portrait. Portraits can be framed as full body, bust or face, and swapped for expression variants per segment.
- Question typography. Four type styles (serif, sans, wide tracking, highlighter) and six entrances (float, typewriter, slide, rise, scatter, wipe). Vertical writing is available in the Japanese version only.
- Backgrounds and sound. Paper and dark backgrounds; silent, quiet or lively sound. Sound is included in the exported video.
- Credits. Add the player’s name and the portrait artist’s name in small type at the end of the video.
- Draw a question. Out of ideas? Draw one on the spot from the same 280 questions as Question Karte.
How to use it
- Under “Q & A”, enter the question, then each person’s name and answer. If you come from “Make a video” in Question Karte, this is already filled in.
- Add a color, icon and portrait for each person.
- Pick one of the four formats under “Format”, then set the background, question typography and sound under “Look & sound”. The preview above updates as you go.
- Press “Make the video” under “Make”. It takes as long as the video itself, and the MP4 saves automatically when it’s done.
Working with Question Karte
The two tools are connected on the same site. Answer questions in Question Karte, press “Make a video”, and the question and answers arrive on this page. You can also do everything here on its own. A Japanese version of this tool is available too.
FAQ
- Do I need video editing software?
- No. Everything is drawn in the browser and exported straight to MP4.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Entering questions and answers, checking the preview and saving images all work on phones. For exporting video, Chrome on a computer is the most reliable.
- Are icon and portrait images uploaded?
- No. Images are used only inside this device’s browser and never sent to a server. Closing the page means adding them again.
- How long and how big is the video?
- It depends on how many answers there are, usually 15–30 seconds. Around 10 MB at high quality (1080), about half that at light (720).
- Can I post it on X or Instagram?
- Yes. It saves as MP4, ready to post. The 9:16 Close-up and 4:5 Lineup suit vertical posts.
- What kind of portrait image works best?
- A PNG with a transparent background. Transparent space above and below is trimmed automatically, and the portrait can be framed as full body, bust or face.
- Who translated this?
- The English version was translated with Claude (Anthropic’s AI). If something reads oddly, please let me know — I’d like to fix it.
