What is Question Karte?

Question Karte is a free browser tool for getting to know your characters: TRPG investigators and player characters, or original characters (OCs). It asks a question, and you answer in character. Instead of working through a “100 questions for my OC” list from top to bottom, you draw one random question at a time and answer just that one. Each answer can be saved as an image card for social media, or sent to Question Movie Maker to become a 15–30 second vertical video. No sign-up, no install. It runs in a phone browser.

What you can do

  • One to six characters can answer. With two or more, the back-and-forth and the difference in tone on the same question become a portrait of the relationship.
  • Four genres to draw from: Light (everyday outlines), Deep (values and the past), Silly (answer on impulse), and Serious (questions to face alone).
  • Save as image. Each question and its answers become a single card. With an icon, a portrait and a character color set, it works as an introduction card as is.
  • Make a video. Send the question and answers to Question Movie Maker and choose one of four formats: speech bubbles popping in one by one, close-ups on each person, captions, or everyone in a lineup.
  • Write your own questions. Custom sets are kept on your device and can be drawn from again and again.
  • The Japanese version also has 733 “parody scenes” (assassins, magic school, and more). Those are available in Japanese only.

How to use it

  1. Enter the names of the characters who will answer (blank is fine). Add more people with “Add a person”.
  2. Set their looks: icon image, portrait, and character color. All optional.
  3. Pick a genre and press “Draw”. If you don’t like the question, draw again.
  4. Answer in character. Answers are saved on this device, so you can stop and pick up where you left off.
  5. Press “Save as image” to keep the card, or “Make a video” to send it to Question Movie Maker.

When it helps

  • You’ve just made an investigator and their voice and habits aren’t settled yet. Ten or so Light questions bring out an outline.
  • Meeting the party before a session. Everyone answering the same question shows how the characters stand with each other.
  • Introducing your OC. Turn answers into images or videos for a character page or social media.
  • After a scenario. Answer Deep or Serious questions again with the character’s state of mind after what they’ve been through.

FAQ

How is this different from a “100 questions” list?
You don’t answer everything in order. You draw one random question at a time, and you can redraw any question you’d rather skip, so it works in a few spare minutes. Each answer can become an image or a video.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Free, no account, no install. Your answers and images stay in this device’s browser and are never sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Saving images works on phones. For exporting video, Chrome on a computer is the most reliable.
Can I post the images and videos on social media?
Yes, for personal creative use. Rights to icons and portraits belong to whoever drew them and whoever set them.
Can several characters answer at once?
Up to six at the same time. With two or more, answers to the same question line up as a conversation.
Can I write my own questions?
Yes. Your own sets are kept on this device and drawn from just like the built-in ones.
Is there a Japanese version?
Yes: 質問カルテ. It also has 733 parody scenes that aren’t in the English version.
Who translated this?
The English version was translated with Claude (Anthropic’s AI). If something reads oddly, or a question has lost its nuance, please let me know — I’d like to fix it.
